The mechanism of action of Mesalamine is hypothesized as a topical one. The drug acts topically on the ulcerations caused in the colon.
Inflammation in colon is a result of a production of arachidonic acid metabolites through cyclooxygenase as well as lipooxygenase pathways.Mesalamine diminishes inflammation through blocking cyclooxygenase & inhibiting prostaglandin synthesis.
MKPPL's technology ensures that the drug releases specifically in the colon. The choice of matrix as well as polymers ensures that the drug does not release either in stomach or in small intestine.
